Project Overview
LCOY Somalia 2024 marked a historic milestone as the first-ever Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) in Somalia, bringing together over 200 youth leaders, climate advocates, and representatives from all six Federal Member States. Organized in Mogadishu, this groundbreaking event empowered young Somali changemakers to engage in climate policy discussions, adaptation strategies, and sustainable development efforts.
As one of the key organizers, we played a pivotal role in planning, coordination, and execution, ensuring that the event effectively amplified the voices of youth from across Somalia. PUSAN co-hosted LCOY Somalia alongside CRAN and other partners, fostering a collaborative platform for climate advocacy and youth leadership.
Given Somalia’s extreme vulnerability to climate-induced droughts, floods, and displacement, this conference provided a critical space for young leaders to address urgent challenges, share solutions, and advocate for policy inclusion at both national and international levels.

Led the drafting of Somalia’s first-ever National Youth Statement on Climate, which will be presented at COP29 and other global climate forums, ensuring Somali youth perspectives are part of international negotiations.

Organized high-level panels addressing climate migration, traditional knowledge, and youth leadership in climate governance, highlighting community-driven solutions to climate resilience.

Ensured participation from youth across all six Federal Member States, amplifying diverse voices and experiences in climate discussions.
